WebFeb 8, 2014 · Clipper creek does recommend the 25 amp breaker. What it means is that the internals of the CC unit are all rated at 25 amps but if it shorts or has any issues that would normally be protected by a 25 amp breaker you are now allowing 30amps to go to the device which is a potential safety issue. I theorize that a software flag gets set in the Clipper Creek indicating "bad power", and that when the EVSE negotiates with the car's chargers, the car recognizes the fault and displays red rings.
